New ILO labour inspection guidelines and practices discussed at high level international forum

The forum, which was addressed by ILO Director-General, Gilbert F. Houngbo, showcased and discussed the recently approved guidelines updating labour inspection principles and practices.

GENEVA (ILO News) – New guidelines and practices to improve labour inspections were discussed at an international meeting of senior government officials in Valencia, Spain.

International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General, Gilbert F. Houngbo, addressed the International Technical Forum of Senior Officials of Labour Inspectorates, which was attended by representatives from more than one hundred ILO Member States.

The aim of the forum was to discuss the future of work, and the practical application of the Guidelines on general principles of labour inspection, approved by ILO’s Governing Body in March 2022.

Conference sessions covered the structure and organization of labour inspection systems in the changing world of work, policies and strategies for the best use of labour inspection resources, collaboration with social partners and innovative approaches for effective enforcement.

The international forum was co-organized by the ILO and the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy of Spain and took place between 17-18 November 2022.
