The ILO Centenary climbs to new heights

To mark the ILO Centenary, Matin Karimli, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population of Azerbaijan, ascended the Heydar peak at the height of 3751 meters above sea level. The peak is named after the previous President and national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The peak is named after the previous President and national leader Heydar Aliyev. It is located in the Great Caucasus Mountains, Quba region of Azerbaijan. Matin Karimli (left) was accompanied by Yashar Hamzayev, ILO National Coordinator in Azerbaijan.

“I am not an experienced mountaineer, and the ascent was quite a challenging task for me,” says Karimli. “The more proud I was to overcome all difficulties and to be able to congratulate the International Labour Organization on its Centenary from one of the most beautiful peaks of the Great Caucasus.”
