Training Course for Public Employment Service Launched in Baku

The course was the third one in a series of capacity building activities aimed at strengthening the Public Employment Service (PES) in Azerbaijan conducted in 2017 within the framework of the ILO Project “Partnerships for Youth Employment in the CIS”.

The ILO DWT/CO Moscow with financial support of the Russian company LUKOIL implements the project. The current course targeted PES staff working with employers. The previous two course targeted directors of employment centers from all over the country and PES staff working with job seekers.

Deputy minister of labour and social protection of population Matin Karimli, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Alessandro Fracassetti, deputy chair of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC) Agil Dadashov, vice president of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers') Organizations of Azerbaijan Vugar Zeynalov, ILO national coordinator in Azerbaijan Yashar Hamzayev, ILO experts attended the opening session  of the training course.

In his statement, Matin Karimli said that cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies, including the ILO, is of great importance for the Republic of Azerbaijan. “At present, Azerbaijan has a broad agenda of cooperation with the ILO, covering political dialogue, legislation improvement and capacity building”, he said.

 All speakers stressed the role of such training courses in increasing the knowledge and professionalism of the PES staff  through the study of advanced world practice, and in equipping the Public Employment Service with personnel that meets international standards and adequately responds to the labour market challenges.
