News | 31 May 2001
A Round Table "Women in management and power structures: mechanism of breaking through the glass ceiling" dedicated to finding the ways to achieve gender equality in high-level business management and political spheres took place in Moscow on the last day of Spring 2001.
The discussion on the theme "Breaking through the glass ceiling: women of power and influence" was started during the celebration of the International Women's Day in ILO Headquarters in Geneva. In 2001 all the regional offices of the ILO intend to conduct a number of activities, devoted to the problem of "glass ceiling" and the ways to break it.
Taking into account the acuteness of this issue for the Russian Federation and other countries in transition, the ILO Moscow Office, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of the Russian Federation and the Embassy of Australia in Moscow, organized a round table on the topic "Women in management and power structures: mechanism of breaking through the glass ceiling". The meeting was attended by distinguished women and prominent figures of the Russian political and business elite, who shared the views on the topic and their personal experience.
At the round table there was a presentation of the new ILO publication "Breaking through the glass ceiling: women in management" with participation of the author Ms. Linda Wirth, ILO Bureau for Gender Equality representative.
