New challenges and opportunities for the informal sector: A seminar on the informal sector in Metro Manila
The Interdepartmental Project on the Urban Informal Sector aims at contributing to efforts to progressively improve the quality of employment, particularly productivity, social protection and occupational safety and health.
In spite of its important role in employment creation the informal sector is beset with many problems which prevent the realization of its full potential. Many of these problems are similar from country to country despite differences in economic development. The project addresses low productivity, lack of social protection and the dismal conditions of work prevailing in the sector.
