Export processing zones, sometimes called "free trade zones" is one of the key elements of an outward-looking, export-led economy. The government treats them as special economic zones and maintains them with a package of attractive business incentives aimed at enticing foreign investments.

In order to attract investments, many concessions were given to investors like exclusion from labour legislations, curbing trade union freedom, restrictions on trade union rights.
