Nurturing the earth

Nurturing the earth, nurturing life. The road to empowerment: Strengthening the Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act. Volume 2

Indigenous peoples (IPs) in the Philippines experience poverty, marginalization, and discrimination. They are a significant target group for the International Labour Organization (ILO) under its Decent Work Country Programme.

In this second of a two-volume series, case studies point to the crucial role of ancestral domains and indigenous knowledge systems and practices among indigenous communities. These practices remain dynamic and very much a part of life, practiced and passed down from the old to the young through traditions on indigenous resources management. Among the stories in this book are the experiences of the Kalanguya community in northern Philippines in conserving natural resources to improve their quality of life, and the role of the Tuwali women in managing the Ifugao rice terraces.
