The International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC) has contributed a total of US$450,000, in two separate agreements, to the ILO's “Emergency Employment and Sustainable Livelihood Recovery for Typhoon Haiyan” project to assist with rebuilding the livelihoods of people devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. Directly affected were about 5.6 million workers. Of these, 2.6 million were already in vulnerable employment and living at or near the poverty line even before the super typhoon.

The project’s contribution will support more than 998 persons through emergency employment, local resource-based work, skills development and enterprise development. These beneficiaries are distributed across communities in Northern Cebu and Tacloban, Leyte.
