1. Philippine Employment Projections (PEP) Follow-up Workshop/Seminar

   8 - 12 August 2011

   The Philippine Employment Project Model (PEPM) is a model of basic to intermediate complexity at this stage. It is developed using the STATA software, and based on the Inforum-ILO Trends approach. An initial ILO workshop, held last November 2010, fulfilled its objectives by increasing the participants’ knowledge and understanding of employment projection models, familiarising them with the STATA code for the Philippines model, and providing them with the capacity to modify the model’s assumptions in order to produce alternate scenarios and simulations. As a follow-up of the initial workshop, the Institute for Labor Studies collaborated with IDEA and made use of the PEPM to make employment projections, which can be used for the Philippine Development Plan. Further, the ILO CO-Manila office made use of the model to make vulnerable employment projections by sex, age and by economic sector.

2. Training on Maternal and Child Health Care for Barangay Health Workers of Unisan, Quezon

   27 - 29 July 2011

   The Barangay Health Workers (BHW) training on Maternal and Child Health Care (MCHC) aims to enhance local capacity to assist in Public Health service delivery particularly on women’s health and safe motherhood which is an important component in reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality. The first level MCHC service delivery occurs at the barangay hence the role of “trained BHW” is also essential for the success of MCHC programme.

3. Learning mission to Climate Change Adaptation Project sites

   26 - 29 July 2011

   The ILO together with partners of the Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP) will host the Millennium Development Goals-Achievement Fund 1656 Joint Programme Management Committee, National Steering Committee Meeting and Learning Mission to project sites in Agusan del Norte. The event will feature site visits to production farms and enterprises, as an opportunity for interaction and dialogue with farmers and implementing teams of local governments, partnerfinancial service providers. These include the Peoples Bank of Caraga, and Baug Multipurpose Cooperative who are partners of the CCAP. The site visits will cover three of the CCAP priority areas in RemediosRomualdez, Jabonga and Las Nieves.

4. Green Jobs Training and Greener Business Forum - Philippines

   19 - 21 July 2011

   The Greener Business Asia and Green Jobs in Asia, two projects currently being implemented in the Philippines by the ILO, has conducted an initial capacity building training package for ILO constituents, entitled Foundation Training on Green Jobs and Greener Business Forum, from 19-21 July 2011 at the CSB Hotel in Manila.

5. Sixth Programme Management Committee meeting (St. Giles, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City)

   Every quarter, the Programme Management Committee meets to discuss the progress made by the joint programme and provide strategic direction in its implementation.

6. Diagnostic Tool on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining in the Filipino Export Processing Sector

   18 - 29 July 2011

   The ILO is creating global tools to enhance its constituents' capacity to promote freedom of association and collective bargaining in the rural and export processing sectors. A diagnostic tool will identify gaps in national law and practice; it will also identify opportunities and means available to the national tripartite constituents to take remedial action on freedom of association and collective bargaining rights in the export processing sector through a national plan of action.

7. Training on Inspection in the Application of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006

   11 - 14 July 2011

   The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 draws together provisions of 68 maritime labour conventions and recommendations, dating back to the 1920s, setting minimum requirements on health, social security, work and rest hours, accommodation, recreation, food and other employment conditions affecting seafarers.

8. Second year assessment and year 2 planning workshop (Angelo King International Center - College of Saint Benilde, Arellano Street corner Estrada Street, Malate, Manila)

   29 June - 1 July 2011

   As the programme nears the end of year 2 (July 2011), the JP YEM 2nd Year Assessment and Year 3 Planning Workshop conducted a comprehensive review of cumulative accomplishments vis-à-vis the joint programme Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and the Results Framework.

9. Training of Trainers on Social Dialogue

   27 - 30 June 2011

   The training aims to develop Social Dialogue advocates among ILO tripartite partners in the water utilities and public sectors. These social dialogue advocates are expected to spread the spirit of open communication, transparency and balanced dialogue between and among tripartite partners and in the community.

    Philippine World Day against Child Labour 2011

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) is to mark this year’s World Day against Child Labour (June 12) with events in more than 50 countries, along with a new report on children in hazardous work. In the Philippines, the National Child Labor Committee’s Sub-Committee on Mainstreaming and Advocacy spearheads the World Day against Child Labour, which aims to increase public awareness on the issue of child labour and on the need to scale up programmes towards the goal of preventing and eliminating the worst forms of child labour. The Philippine World Day against Child Labour will also build strong action and commitment to promote decent and productive work, recognizing that hazardous work is part of the larger child labour problem.

12. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Contingency Planning Workshop

    Poor families and communities in the Bondoc project sites are vulnerable due to their exposure to several risks such as climate-induce hazards, armed conflict and unstable sources of income and livelihoods. Local governments and communities also need help in coping with and mitigating the negative impacts of natural disasters.

13. Study Program on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management

    The Inter-agency Programme to Nurture Peace, Security and Decent Work through Local Development in Conflict Areas of the Philippines (Bondoc LED) aims to strengthen resiliency of vulnerable groups and communities against the effects and potential impacts of natural hazards as a key project component. Poor families and communities in the Bondoc project sites are vulnerable due to their exposure to several risks such as climate-induce hazards, armed conflict and unstable sources of income and livelihoods. Local governments and communities also need help in coping with and mitigating the negative impacts of natural disasters.

14. Partnership with Local Government to Create New Income Streams for Subsistence Copra Communities

    18 - 31 May 2011

    Coconut farmers and women can now produce sugar, oil, soap and perfume products from coconut. This was after the Inter-agency Programme to Nurture Peace, Security and Decent Work through Local Development in Conflict Areas of the Philippines (Bondoc LED) and local government of San Narciso, Quezon conducted training in remote villages. A total of 70 coconut farmers and 56 women joined the training held on 18-31 May 2011 in Quezon. Participants learned sequential harvesting of coconut for copra and sap collection to increase productivity. Coconut-based products such as coconut sugar, virgin coconut oil, organic soap, and perfume were also produced.

15. ILO-Ifugao State University (IFSU) knowledge corner partnership

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) opened knowledge corners in schools, universities, and public libraries in the Philippines. Through a partnership with the ILO and the Ifugao State University (IFSU), the first provincial knowledge corner was established on 18 May 2011 in the northern region of the Philippines.

    The roundtable discussion presented the ILO’s Green Jobs Initiative and discussed green jobs activities in the Philippines, including the role of government, employers’ and workers organizations. The roundtable discussion was followed by a Project Advisory Committee meeting, whose agenda were devoted entirely on the launching of the Green Jobs in Asia Project.
