Training on Fair Recruitment of Philippines and Hong Kong Associations of Recruitment Agencies

The Integrated Programe on Fair Recruitment (FAIR project) is committed to exploring new ideas that could help reduce deceptive and abusive recruitment practices. The FAIR project has undertaken the training of Philippines and Hong Kong Kong private recruitment agency associations on fair recruitment.

Decent Work Country Programme Preparatory Workshop for Employers

The ILO in partnership with the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) brought together employers and its local chapters to strengthen its participation in formulating and implementing the Decent Work Country Programme in the Philippines.

Government Workshop: Policy Mapping towards a Decent Work Country Programme
10 November 2017
Government officials mapped policies and discussed issues on labour and employment in the Philippines. The policy mapping and dialogue among national government agencies is part of the key steps towards drafting the Decent Work Country Programme.

Consultation Workshop on Human Resource Results-based Management on Labour Inspection in Luzon
8 - 9 November 2017
The ILO Labour Inspectorate Project has assisted the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in developing four proposed job descriptions to include entry-level general labour inspector and senior general labour inspector, covering all aspects of general labour standards and basic occupational safety and health, entry-level technical labour inspector and senior technical labour inspector covering technical safety inspections and occupational safety and health investigations.

Regional Programme Advisory Committee

Consultation Workshop on Human Resource Results-based Management on Labour Inspection in Mindanao Region
25 - 26 October 2017
A core component of the ILO Labour Inspectorate Project support is to provide technical assistance to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for the review of key human resource systems and functions that support labour inspection such as the review of job descriptions of labour inspectors, identification of specific training needs and review of performance monitoring tools and systems. The Project has assisted DOLE in the development of proposed job descriptions for labour inspectors, aligned with provisions of ILO Convention 81 and 129.

10th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour
25 - 26 October 2017
The Forum is convened and hosted by the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat, ILO, IOM, UN Women and the Taskforce on ASEAN Migrant Workers.

Regional Consultations for the Updating of the National Occupational Safety and Health Profile
10 October 2017
The Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), in partnership with the ILO SafeYouth@Work Project, has been convening a series of regional consultations to gather region and sector-specific inputs from tripartite plus stakeholders for the updating of the national OSH profile. So far, regional consultations have been done in Region III at Clark, Pampanga (July 27, 2017), Region VII in Cebu City (September 29, 2017) and Region IVA in Batangas City (October 10, 2017). Similar consultations will also be convened in the Cordillera Administrative Region and in Region XI in the coming days.

Tripartite Project Launch on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining

The event officially launched the ILO EU GSP+ project on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining which focused on the better application of international labour standards particularly on FOA and CB. The occasion also gathered tripartite social partners particularly government agencies involved in formulating strategies to improve application of freedom of association and collective bargaining rights.

Building a Generation of Safe and Healthy Workers (SafeYouth@Work) Project Convenes its 4th Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting

DOLE Assistant Secretary Amuerfina Reyes chaired the 4th PSC meeting on behalf of Undersecretary Ciriaco Lagunzad III. The meeting which gathered 26 participants, representing the organizations of various implementing partners, provided updates on ongoing and planned activities for 2017.

Workshop on Integrating Occupational Safety and Health in the Merit Badge System of the Philippine Boy Scouts

Towards tapping various avenues for increasing young workers knowledge and skills on Occupatoinal Safety and Health (OSH), the USDOL funded SafeYouth@Work Project is partnering with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) to develop a specialized OSH badge as part of the scout organization's merit badge system.

FOA CB Strategy Planning Workshop for Workers
22 - 23 August 2017
Thirty-seven trade unionists from the public and private sector labour centers held a Workers' Strategy Planning Workshop to craft a results-based workplan on freedom of association and collective bargaining principles.

First Cluster on Labour Laws Compliance System-Management Information System (LLCS-MIS) Enhancements
10 - 11 August 2017
The workshop was the first to be organized and funded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as part of its counterpart under the Labour Laws Compliance System-Management Information System (LLCS-MIS) enhancements. The one and a half day workshop objectives were to: (a) update selected labour inspectors and the Chiefs of the Technical Services and Support Division (TSSD); (b) gather inputs from the participants on the MIS data handling and security protocol; and (c) provide a presentation on the progress of the ILO USDOL Project on Labour Inspection.

Role of business in building a resilient future in crisis and disaster

The ILO Bureau for Employers' Activities (ACT/EMP), the Country office for the Philippines (CO-Manila) and Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) held a joint workshop to discuss the role of business and its organizations in building a resilient future in Mindanao through support for enterprise growth, job promotion and investment strategies.

SHIELD Against Child Labour Writeshop
3 - 5 August 2017
The ILO and DSWD will hold a writeshop to develop key messages, strategies and products aimed at raising awareness on child labour. The writeshop will include storybooks, flyers, briefers, flow charts and primer under the Strategic Helpdesks for Information, Education, Livelihood and other Developmental Interventions (SHIELD) against Child Labour project.

Tripartite Consultations on the Gap Analysis of Key ILO Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Conventions
27 July - 2 October 2017
The SafeYouth@Work Project, in collaboration with the Institute for Labour Studies (ILS), embarked on tripartite consultations on the initial results of the Gap Analysis of Key ILO OSH Conventions. During the tripartite consultation workshops convened in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the ILS presented the current gaps of national laws and practice vis-a-vis key ILO OSH conventions particularly Convention No. 155 (the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981), Recommendation No. 164 (the Occupational Safety and Health Recommendation, 1981), and the Protocol of 2002 to the Occupational Safety and Health Convention (P. No. 155). Discussions also focused on the status of ratification by the Philippines of Convention No. 187 (the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006).

Occupational Safety and Health Appreciation Course for Tripartite Councils

Workers and employers' representatives as well as DOLE focal persons of regional tripartite industry councils in the National Capital Region attended the pilot-run of the Appreciation Course on OSH for Tripartite Councils.
