  1. ILO-ASEAN Seminar on the potential of social protection to build resilience to disasters

    22 - 24 November 2016

    The overall objective of the seminar is to provide an opportunity for informed discussions on the importance of social protection in preparing and responding to natural disasters and assist policy makers in ASEAN in developing practical guidelines towards implementing disaster-responsive social protection in line with International labour Standards (ILS).

  2. FAIR project presentation of research findings and strategic planning for pilot interventions

    17 - 18 November 2016

    ILO commissioned experts to investigate commercial and practical challenges that confront fair recruiters, and identify opportunities to support and enable fair recruiters to thrive in a competitive market.

  3. Formal Launch and Inception Workshop of the ILO-EU Project on Strengthening the Impact of Trade and Employment (STRENGTHEN)

    6 - 7 October 2016

    The project launch will also consist of a two-day inception workshop which will gather leaders and representatives from government, labor, business, academe and civil society to discuss, identify and set the targets, objectives and activities of the STRENGTHEN Project from 2016 until September 2018.

  4. National Consultation Workshop to Reduce Child Labour and to Improve Working Conditions in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining

    6 September 2016

    Over 50 representatives from government agencies, employers and workers organizations and national coalitions joined a consultation workshop to reduce child labour and to improve working conditions in artisanal and small-scale gold mining.

  5. Green Jobs and Just Transition Technical workshop for Government Organizations

    25 - 26 August 2016

    The ILO, in partnership with the government, workers and employers organizations in the Philippines, has conducted a workshop to enhance understanding of greens jobs and just transition. The workshop was part of the pilot application of the policy guidelines on “Just Transition towards Environmentally Sustainable Economies and Societies for All”.

  7. Capacity Building for DOLE Officials and Labour Laws Compliance Officers in Determining Labour Only Contracting (Visayas)

    15 - 16 August 2016

    With United States Department of Labor (USDOL) funding, ILO supported three batches of regional trainings as part of its strategy to provide specialized training on contract labour. Labour only contracting, more popularly referred to in the Philippines either as “555” or “Endo”, is a situation where workers are repeatedly hired for the same kind of work by the same company, on at most five-month contracts.

  8. Capacity Building for DOLE Officials and Labour Laws Compliance Officers in Determining Labour Only Contracting (Mindanao)

    11 - 12 August 2016

    The ILO conducted three batches of specialized training on handling cases of labour only contracting based on new policy (Labor Advisory No. 10, Series 2016) for 281 labour law compliance officers (LLCOs), conciliators and mediators, and labor arbiters, as part of the new administration’s focus to stop labour only contracting.

  9. Capacity Building for DOLE Officials and Labour Laws Compliance Officers in Determining Labour Only Contracting (Luzon)

    9 - 10 August 2016

    The objectives of this area-wide training were to: (a) capacitate DOLE personnel, Regional Offices and Field Offices on the implementation of labour laws related to contracting and subcontracting arrangements; (b) enhance the assessment skills of Labour Laws Compliance Officers in determining labour only contracting; and (c) refine regional action plans on assessments of contracting and subcontracting practices and gather inputs for the national action plan.

  10. Launch of the Integrated Programme on Fair Recruitment (FAIR) in the Philippines

    The ILO Country Office for the Philippines presented the objectives and expected results of the FAIR project to ILO constituents and key national partners.

  11. FAIR Project to foster fair recruitment practices in the Philippines

    3 August 2016

    ILO CO-Manila implements a new project to prevent human trafficking and reduce labour migration costs through the promotion of fair recruitment practices.

  12. Baseline Report Validation and Results-based Monitoring and Evaluation Workshops

    2 - 3 August 2016

    This activity aims to achieve the following objectives: (a) to present the preliminary findings and solicit initial feedback from stakeholders on preliminary conclusions and recommendations made in the baseline study activity; (b) to update participants' knowledge on results-based monitoring and evaluation principles, concepts and tools as promoted and applied in the project context; and (c) to set specific, desired level of performance targets, which will contribute to the measurement of project results.

  13. Luzon Area Wide Consultations on the ILO Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 (No. 81) and ILO Labour Inspection (Agriculture) Convention, 1969 (No. 129)

    The ILO, through the USDOL funded project on Building the Capacity of the Philippines’ Labour Inspectorate has conducted an area wide consultation in Luzon to validate the gap analysis for ILO Conventions on labour inspection and the Proposed Labor Laws Compliance System (LLCS) Bill.

  14. Visayas Area Wide Consultation on the ILO Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 (No. 81) and ILO Labour Inspection (Agriculture) Convention, 1969 (No. 129)

  17. Tripartite Partners in Region IV-A Engage in Dialogue to Improve Labour Inspection in Key Sectors

    23 - 24 June 2016

    Last 23-24 June 2016, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region IV-A with support from the ILO through the ILO United States Department of Labor, Labour Inspection Project, gathered tripartite partners in key sectors within the region, in a Regional Labour Laws Compliance Summit in Sta Rosa, Laguna. This Summit was aimed at raising awareness on the recently revised Rules on the Labour Laws Compliance System, otherwise known as DOLE Department Order 131B-16, and gathering feedback and proposals from partners on how to improve labour inspection or the conduct of assessments, particularly in the education, health, construction, and manufacturing sectors, including enterprises situated in export processing zones. The focus sectors for the said Summit were based on the dominant industries or sectors within the region as well as results of regional compliance reports.

  18. ILO Supports Trade Union Awareness Raising Activities on the Revised Rules on the Labour Laws Compliance System

    As an output of the event, the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) adopted a plan of action that includes trade union centre support for the strengthening of local union assistance in their participation before during and after a workplace assessment or inspection. This also includes support for the establishment of internal trade union monitoring networks and coordination with other trade union centres towards the setting up of such networks within a specific geographical area, sector or industry or enterprise.

  19. Decent Work Country Diagnostics (DWCD) Inception-cum-Capacity Building Workshop

    11 - 12 May 2016

    The workshop will introduce the background, concept and elements of the DWCD process including statistical decent work indicators, legal framework indicators and the proposed DWCD analytical framework to the national government agencies, workers and employers organizations.

  20. Commemoration of Workers' Memorial Day and the World Day for Safety and Health

    28 - 29 April 2016

    The activity observes World Day for Safety and Health at Work, commemorates Workers' Memorial Day and raises awareness on the important role of trade unions in labour inspection and in the promotion of safe and healthy working conditions.
