Forum on the Global Wage Report 2020-21 and Social Protection for Platform Workers and AWA/WFH

The ILO and the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) held a forum with Commissioners of NWPC, representatives of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards and distinguished officials from the Government to present ILO Global Wage Report 2020-21 and key social protection global trends in the platform economy.

The ILO and the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) held a forum on 12 November 2021, to present the ILO Global Wage Report 2020-22 and key social protection global trends in the platform economy.

The objectives of the forum were to apprise the participants on the following:
  • recent trends in wages, the global economic and labour market context, and the impact that the pandemic has had on wages, including number of policy recommendations to mitigate the negative impact of the crisis; and
  • social protection trends and issues in the platform economy and alternative work arrangements/work-from-home arrangements.
The workshop was opened by Undersecretary Philip Parades of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Mr Khalid Hassan of the ILO. This was followed by the presentation and open forum on the:
  • Global Wage Report 2020-21 by Mr Xavier Gonzalo Estupinan, Specialist on Wage, ILO Decent Work Team for East and South-East Asia and the Pacific (DWT-BKK); and
  • Social Protection for Platform Workers and AWA/WFH by Mr Markus Ruck, Specialist on Social Protection, ILO DWT-BKK.
