Child labour

SHIELD Against Child Labour Writeshop

The ILO and DSWD will hold a writeshop to develop key messages, strategies and products aimed at raising awareness on child labour. The writeshop will include storybooks, flyers, briefers, flow charts and primer under the Strategic Helpdesks for Information, Education, Livelihood and other Developmental Interventions (SHIELD) against Child Labour project.

The ILO in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development will conduct a writeshop to develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials such as story books, flyers, briefers, flow charts and a primer on the Republic Act 9231 that are responsive to the needs of target audience.

This writeshop is among the key strategies of the Strategic Helpdesks for Information, Education, Livelihood and other Developmental Interventions (SHIELD) against Child Labour project. The project aims to strengthen the community efforts by improving the capacities of the community and the duty-bearers to enable them to provide appropriate and immediate intervention to child labourers and their families.

The project supports the Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL) 2017-2022 goal of withdrawing 630,000 children from child labour by 2022 and a total of one million children by 2025. Specifically, SHIELD against Child Labour project aims to help eliminate child labour in its worst forms and those in the blanket ban (below 15 years old). To achieve this, one of the key strategy of the project is to conduct advocacy and awareness-raising activities.

Crucial to this initiative of the project is the development of IEC materials that are responsive to ensure that at the end of the project, the community awareness and knowledge will increase, attitudes will be reformed and practices will be improved on the issue of child labour. About 40 participants from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), DSWD, ILO CARING Gold Project and BANToxics! will join the writeshop.
