The project launch will also consist of a two-day inception workshop which will gather leaders and representatives from government, labor, business, academe and civil society to discuss, identify and set the targets, objectives and activities of the STRENGTHEN Project from 2016 until September 2018.

The Formal Launch and Inception Workshop formally introduced to the general public the ILO-EU Project on Strengthening the Impact of Trade on Employment in the Philippines (STRENGTHEN), whose primary aim and objective is to help the Philippines in leveraging industries that are competitive in international trade towards providing more opportunities for decent work within the country and in raising the number of workers who are productively employed.

The Inception Workshop which was held for two days catered to a total off more than 70 participants from the Philippines, comprising of middle-level officials and senior technical specialists from the various departments and agencies (labour, trade, economic planning, skills development) and other relevant government institutions, who contribute to the formulation of national trade and employment policies and representatives from employers’, workers’, exporters’ and SME organizations, amongst others whose professional activities are strongly tied to the foreign sector and therefore greatly impacted by national trade and employment policies.

The workshop aimed serve as an avenue where various national actors, partners and stakeholders would be able to come up with a tripartite consensus on a national trade and employment agenda that would be beneficial for the Philippines in the long-run.
