Enhance green charcoal enterprise in Tolosa, Leyte

Community-based Enterprise Development Workshop to Enhance Green Charcoal Enterprise in Tolosa, Leyte

With the support of the Government of Norway, the ILO Tacloban team conducted a Community-based Enterprise Development (C-BED) workshop in Barangay Opong, Tolosa, Leyte. The participants included worker-beneficiaries of the Green Charcoal Briquetting Facility, a sub-project supported by the ILO in partnership with a local organization called the Women in Development Association, in the same barangay.

C-BED is an innovative ILO training programme intended to strengthen the business and financial skills of aspiring entrepreneurs and small enterprise owners. The programme offers a suite of training tools that apply activity-based, peer-to–peer learning methods designed for implementation in contexts where resources, capacities and accessibility are limited, particularly appropriate in natural disaster recovery.

The participants engaged in discussions and activities that covered topics like coming up with new entrepreneurial prospects, identifying potential customers, creating marketing plans and setting prices. With these business and financial management skills, they should be able to successfully operate the green charcoal facility and build upon their enterprise, turning it into a thriving local business.
