Joint ILO- FAO Mission to Zamboanga City

The ILO and FAO combined to visit Zamboanga City in preparation of starting activities under a joint UN project.

The International Labour Organization Country Office for the Philippines (ILO CO-Manila) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) combined to visit Zamboanga City in preparation of starting activities under a joint UN project.

Mr Simon Hills, the Employment and Livelihood Development Officer for the ILO CO-Manila accompanied FAO representative, Mr Jose Luis Fernandez and other team members to Zamboanga City to carry out preliminary ocular assessments and meetings with partners on the ground.

ILO and FAO will carry out preliminary activities linked to the joint-UN Peace Building Fund (PBF) Project during the first week of June in Zamboanga City, building on the agencies joint support of the food security and livelihoods cluster.

Meetings were held with Mayor of Zamboanga City, Ms Maria Isabelle Beng Climaco, Mr Diosdado Palacat of the City’s Agricultural Office (OCA) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

ILO and FAO met with members of the food security and livelihood cluster and its co-chair, Mr Dennis Febre, to discuss in more depth the situation in Zamboanga and the upcoming training that ILO and FAO will offer. Ocular visits of sites in Talukasangay, Mampang and Buggoc were also conducted.

It is hoped that along with preliminary activities on enterprise development to be undertaken from June 2015 in Zamboanga ILO and FAO will hold an inception workshop linked to the PBF later in the month as well.
