Collective Bargaining for trade unions

Capacity Building on Collective Bargaining for Trade Unions

The project aims to capacitate union officers and staff in undertaking social dialogue, particularly negotiation, in furtherance of the rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Project background

The over-arching focus of ILO technical cooperation program is poverty alleviation through the promotion, respect, recognition and improved application of core labour standards. In the Philippines, Convention 87 and 98 take the front seat of ILO focus for the current biennium, 2012-2013.

ILO intends to carry out this focus by supporting trade unions to promote and better capacitate themselves to carry out their role in collective bargaining effectively.

Project strategy

By the end of 2013, trade union negotiators have undergone three trainings in three separate batches in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, on how to promote collective bargaining and negotiate mutually beneficial collective bargaining agreements in the private and public sectors using social dialogue and win-win negotiation techniques.
