Women migrant workers

Call for proposals: Filipino translator-writer for the Safe and Fair Glossary

The ILO Country Office for the Philippines (ILO CO-Manila), under the Safe and Fair: Realizing Women Migrant Workers’ Rights & Opportunities in the ASEAN Region (Safe and Fair-Philippines) programme, will engage a consultant to translate in Filipino the “Media-friendly glossary on migration: Women migrant workers and ending violence against women (EVAW) edition” published by Safe and Fair in 2020, and add a section on Philippine-specific labour migration terms focusing on women migrant workers and EVAW. The interested candidates must submit their proposals via email on or before Monday 7 June 2021, 5:00 p.m., Manila time.

In 2020, Safe and Fair Programme Regional Office published the “Media-friendly glossary on migration: Women migrant workers and ending violence against women (EVAW) edition.”

The glossary is being translated into local languages by Safe and Fair Programme teams across the ASEAN countries. A Filipino translation of the glossary will also be made.

A section on Philippine-specific labour migration terms focusing on women migrant workers and ending violence against women (EVAW) will also be added. This will be in English, with Filipino translation as well. The additional section is needed, since the ASEAN-level glossary focuses on terms that are relevant across the ASEAN region, and hence does not include many other important terms commonly used in the context of Philippine labour migration.

In view of the above, the ILO CO-Manila, under the Safe and Fair-Philippines, will engage a Filipino translator-writer as an external collaborator in order to deliver the following outputs:

• Translation into Filipino of the glossary published in 2020;
• Put together, in close consultation with Safe and Fair-Philippines, the additional section on Philippine-specific migration terms focusing on women migrant workers and ending violence against women (to be done after the translation of the 2020 glossary is completed and accepted by ILO).

Proposals and CVs should be submitted via email to sanchezk@ilo.org on or before 7 June 2021, with “Safe and Fair consultant – Filipino translator” as the subject of the email. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
