Violence and harassment

C190 Action Group launch meeting

The launch of C190 Action Group took place on 11 February 2021 with the participation of women and men members coming from employers’ and workers’ organizations and the government. The C190 Action Group aims to advance gender equality and social justice by working towards the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work in Nepal.

Background

Recognizing that violence and harassment is incompatible with decent work, the ILO Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190) was adopted at the International Labour Conference in 2019.

In Nepal’s context, to strengthen action against violence and harassment with focus on gender-based violence, a national workshop was organized in December 2019 to review progress made and discuss ways forward.

As a next step, the Office is planning to support the ILO constituents in implementing the priority areas of action, and is supporting the formation of an action group to take lead in preventing and addressing violence and harassment in the world of work.

Objective

•    Strengthen the capacity of the focal persons of the government, employers’ and workers’ organizations in preventing and responding to violence and harassment in the world of work in their organizations.
•    Strengthen the institutional capacity of the ILO constituents in Nepal on preventing and addressing violence and harassment in the world of work
•    Build the network of the ILO constituents and other key stakeholders to work on violence and harassment in the world of work in Nepal.

Outcomes and way forward

•    The ILO constituents in Nepal have focal persons well-equipped with knowledge on preventing and responding to violence and harassment in their organizations
•    The awareness of the members of the ILO constituents on unacceptable behaviours have improved substantially
•    The ILO constituents in Nepal have improved institutional mechanisms to prevent and respond to violence and harassment in the world of work
•    There is a stronger network of stakeholders working together to improve the national framework on preventing and responding to violence and harassment in the world of work
•    The group members shared knowledge and information as resource persons in various meetings and forums.
