Training of Trainers

Training of Trainers on the Rural Transportation Information Management System (RuTIMS)

The RuTIMS is an innovative tool and comprehensive road database management system for overall planning and management of rural transportation infrastructures.

A Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Rural Transportation Information Management System (RuTIMS) was provided by software developers and the ILO Project Strengthening National Rural Transport Programme (SNRTP) to district engineers and sub-engineers, Project Management Unit (PMU), Central Project Coordination Unit (CPCU) and ILO Officials.

The objective of the training was to train 35 engineers on operating RuTIMS, mobile monitoring and online mapping, which contains advance android version that captures road images, information, inventory and road networks. It is expected that the training will be instrumental in developing district level trainers to train other concerned staff on the proper operation of RuTIMS, Open Street Map and Construction Site Monitoring (CSM) through mobile monitoring system.

The programme was chaired by the Director General, Mr Ram Krishna Sapkota, Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR), Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, Richard Howard, Director of the ILO Country Office for Nepal, was the chief guest for the event. During the opening session, Mr. Sapkota elucidated the fact that more than 80 per cent of the total local development budget is spent on maintenance of Local Road Network (LRN) and District Road Core Network (DRCN). He highlighted that proper inventory of local infrastructure will help in the realistic planning, budgeting, monitoring and data management through RuTIMS, which can be useful for policy makers, planners, researchers, explorers, analysts and DoLIDAR. He expressed that the importance of RuTIMS has been realized since last year after the development of the Annual Road Maintenance Plan (ARMP).   ILO's Director also stressed the importance of online software in proper planning in order to achieve the annual and multiyear target in time.
