ILO celebrates its 50th Anniversary with Nepal

On 14 December 2016, the ILO Country Office for Nepal celebrated 50 years of development partnership between Nepal and the ILO.

To mark the 50th anniversary, a series of activities were  planned with the slogan “50 years Together for Social Justice” and organized by the ILO’s tripartite constituents, government, workers and employers.

At the high-level event, the Right Honourable Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the Chief Guest delivered a special keynote address.

A photobook was launched showing the 50-year history of the ILO in Nepal reflecting on the achievements and challenges.  The short video “50 years Together for Social Justice” presented the milestone in the ILO-Nepal partnership.

In the joint Statement, the tripartite Constituents committed themselves to advance decent work, inclusive growth and equality for all Nepalese women and men.

After the main event, a Press meet with the ILO Director-General was organized to highlight the 50 years of development cooperation in Nepal.

A national dialogue on Nepali Youth’s Vision for the Future of Work was held on 15 December 2016 to engage youth from various sectors and their aspirations while discussing key challenges and opportunities in relation to the decent jobs, entrepreneurship, gender equity, governance, and changing notion of work.

In addition, the youth event provided a platform to interact with the ILO Director-General on the ILO’s Future of Work initiative which stems from the need to note and address the implications of transformational changes in the world of work.
