Trade and employment: country report for Indonesia

This report aims at assessing and addressing the effects of trade on employment in Indonesia. The significance of this report is to support the analysis of effective and coherent trade and labour market policies that address the adjustment challenges that workers and employers face and expand opportunities for the creation of decent employment in Indonesia.

To sum up, the impact of international markets through globalization, trade openness and free trade arrangements on employment in Indonesia have not always been fully positive as there are still the problems of high unemployment both open unemployment and under-employment. The incidence of open unemployment in particular has continued to be more pronounced among women, the educated workforce and youth.
