The Launching of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention at Workplace

As part of ILO's on technical assistance to support Ministry of Manpower on Manpower Ministerial Decree on Business Continuity Plan due to Covid-19 Pandemic, the ILO supported the Manpower Ministry on developing the Occupational Safety and Health Guidance for COVID-19 Pandemic at Workplace.

Background

Since COVID-19 pandemic hit first time in Wuhan in Dec 2019, as per January 2021, 98,000,000 COVID-19 cases occurred globally. The first COVID-19 case in Indonesia was found on the early March 2020, as per end of January, 2021 there are 1.012.350 COVID-19 cases confirmed. 820.365 recovered, and 28.468 death cases. Some provinces in Indonesia have performed their own way of practicing lockdown and companies as well as public services have started to open their businesses. This effort signalizes that new normal government of Indonesia will slowly rise the economic situation in the entire country. However, this initiative should be governed in a certain regulation to create a healthy and decent work at a workplace.

As part of ILO role’s on technical assistance to support Ministry of Manpower on Manpower Ministerial Decree on Business Continuity Plan due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the ILO supported the Ministry on developing the Occupational Safety and Health Guidance for COVID-19 Pandemic at Workplace. The OSH guidance on Covid-19 prevention at workplace is aimed to support the companies and business entities in managing the business continuity plan and ensure the other health issues services related with the existing epidemic in Indonesia at workplace sectors such as TB, HIV/AIDS, etc remain available.

After six month of the guidance development by Indonesia Occupational Doctor Association (IDKI) and an intensive coordination with Ministry of Manpower and tripartite consultation, ILO plans to launch the OSH Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention at Workplace to the public and related stakeholders.
