Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Employment among Trade Union in Palm Oil Sector
The aim of the FGD is to collect information for the action research on freedom of association and collective bargaining in palm oil sector in South Sumatra.
Objectives
This meeting will have the following objectives:
- To develop concrete activities covering the five key issues identified during the meeting on 5 December 2019 in South Sumatra;
- To set up a focal points network at the provincial level in order to support provincial and district level activities; and
- To collect information for the action research on freedom of association and collective bargaining in palm oil sector in South Sumatra.
Background
Within the framework of the previous project, Promoting Decent Work in Palm Oil Plantations in Indonesia funded by the Netherland Embassy for Indonesia, the ILO has supported the establishment of a trade union network in the palm oil sector (JAPBUSI). Its key role is to promote information sharing, communication, advocacy, and joint action, thereby ensuring coordination of activities among various federations and confederations active in the palm oil sector. Within this context, a joint secretariat has been set up to serve as the hub for the coordination of activities, collaboration, and communication among members.To support the functioning of the network and in order to equip it with necessary capacity and skills needed to ensure its effective management, the mobilization of the trade unions organizations at provincial, district, and factory levels to work together under the same platform the project will facilitate series of regular meetings to promote its sustainability.
