Indonesia Business Forum

The forum will highlight progress made by national actors in addressing the top labour issues affecting the garment sector and the common approaches being adopted to achieve greater impact.

Background

Welcome to Indonesia Business Forum 2018!

Building a responsible and competitive global garment industry requires patience, commitment, and the involvement of a variety of stakeholders.

Workers, their employers and government are critical pillars for change within countries, and buyers can serve as a fourth pillar of support for stable, sustainable improvement. Over the years we have taken note of buyers and factories interest in addressing issues in the sector
through public policy and engagement with government, trade unions and employers‘ organizations.

Our forum this year will highlight progress made by national actors in addressing the top labour issues affecting the garment sector and the common approaches being adopted to achieve greater impact. Key speakers will include Indonesia Employers’ Association (Apindo),
key worker federations and government.

Sessions

We have seen closer collaboration between buyers-partners and BWI on joint advisory and follow-up of the improvement process, joint training and capacity building. We know that we can and should do more together to multiply the impact. At the same time, the inclusion of vendors/group manufacturers/agents/licensees in the improvement process is more and more important to create impact at the factory level.

So, we are adopting a new approach this year. We will have time dedicated to each group (separately) but will bring together both the buyers and vendors/group manufacturers/agents/licensees in a final all-encompassing session where we look into the different roles of each
actor and ways of best working together.
