World Day Against Child Labour 2016 in Indonesia and Timor-Leste

The ILO Country Office for Indonesia and Timor-Leste has held two commemoration activities in Indonesia and Timor-Leste to campaign against child labour, including a multimedia presentation, a live talkshow, a drama play and media interviews.

This year’s World Day Against Child Labour, June 12, focuses on child labour in supply chains with a global message: “End Child Labour in Supply Chains: It is Every Business!”

Indonesia

Commemoration of the World Day in Jakarta, Indonesia
The ILO, in collaboration with the United States Embassy in Jakarta, organized an event on Wednesday, 8 June 2016, at @America, Jakarta, to increase awareness on the existence of the child labour in both production of goods and services for domestic markets and exports.

The event included an interactive dialogue on ways to strengthen collaboration amongst relevant stakeholders, and presentations by Laurend Sinaga, Director of Labour Norms, Women and Children of the Ministry of Manpower government officials, Toni Wahid, Assessment and Remediation Manager of GAP in Indonesia, Morgan C. Hall, Political Officer of the US Embassy and Francesco d’Ovidio, Country Director of the ILO in Indonesia.

The talkshow further discussed efforts taken by government of Indonesia and showcased best practices at the enterprise level which demonstrated efforts to tackle child labour in supply chains. Stories of child labour in supply chains were also presented.

Timor-Leste

The World Day celebration in Batugade, Timor-Leste
The Commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labour in Timor-Leste took place in Batugade, border of Timor-Leste and Indonesia on 10 June. The commemoration was organized by the National Committee on Child Labour of Timor-Leste (CNTI) in collaboration with the Secretariat of State for Vocational Training and Employment Policy (SEPFOPE).

The event was attended by government officials, parliament, army, police and municipalities authorities as well as children. The event consisted of a drama play and presentation related to child labour issues as part of the ongoing effort of the CNTI with support of the ILO to develop a National Action Plan (NAP) on Child Labour in Timor-Leste.
