Business Continuity Planning Programme

Business Continuity Planning Program (Business/Operational Continuity Planning) is an ILO program implemented through the activities of advocacy, promotion and education related to business continuity planning efforts at the level of decision-making of a company or organization.

Background

Unexpected events often occur, such as floods, fires, riots, demonstrations up to outbreaks of disease and others. Considering the geographical and geological conditions, Indonesia is known as a country prone to disasters, whether natural disaster or disaster due to human action, from large to small scale. For example, major flooding in Jakarta, the tsunami in Aceh, earthquake in Yogyakarta, the conflict in Ambon and Poso, Bali bombing, SARS, pandemic influenza, and so forth.

The events and disasters are directly or indirectly affect the operation of the company or organization, regardless of big or small, private or government property, and manufacturing or service sector. Therefore various impacts must be faced by a company or organization in that situation, such as: the collapse of the IT network, employee absenteeism, loss of power, disruption of production, delays in ordering and delivery of goods, payment delays, and so forth.

Impact faced by any company or organization will be more severe and harmful if the company or organization did not have preparedness plan in place. Given these disasters usually come suddenly, companies or organizations that do not have preparedness plan will experience panic and confusion which could hamper the continuity of operation of a company or organization.

Unlike the case with companies or organizations that have prepared themselves with preparing for Business Continuity Plan. This plan helps a company or organization to map and analyze the structure of the potential risk of a disaster that could make early preparations to take measures and control devices are fast, scalable and effective in order to minimize the possible impact.

Business Continuity Planning Program (Business/Operational Continuity Planning) is an ILO program implemented through the activities of advocacy, promotion and education related to business continuity planning efforts at the level of decision-making of a company or organization. These activities are conducted through a training program that aims to help companies or organizations in planning program sustainability in the face of crisis or disaster.

This training is designed to assist and equip the company or organization in preparing the face of crises or disasters through a "risk management" that apply a simple and systematic framework that can be customized for various types and forms of threat, danger or crisis.

Objectives

After attending this program, participants are expected to be able to perform business continuity planning for their enterprise through the implementation of an integrated management process by conducting risk analysis and identify the impacts that have a potential threat to its business or organization.

Specifically, the participants are expected to:

  • Promote and advocate the important of developing BCP to the decision maker in their company;
  • Develop business continuity plan for their company; and
  • Promote the BCP programme to companies and partners (supply-distribution chain), preferably for partners that are categorized as SMEs.
