It also discussed G20 skills strategy and proposed list of indicators on persons with disabilities applicable across G20 countries.

During her presentation, Martha Newton stated that “the COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the importance of labour protection, and its inclusivity, to the resilience of workers and their families and business sustainability.”

The adaptation and revision benefit employers and workers from increased flexibility but not at the detriment of workers’ working conditions, safety and health, well-being and productivity."

She also added that labour protection measures need to be adapted and revised. “The adaptation and revision benefit employers and workers from increased flexibility but not at the detriment of workers’ working conditions, safety and health, well-being and productivity,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Anwar Sanusi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower, as the chair of the meeting, emphasized the rapid digitalization and impact of COVID-19 to the employment that resulted changes in jobs and declined global employment due to the crisis.

“The Indonesian G20 Presidency faces certain challenges that required collective approached. We thankful to have G20 as a venue to work collaboratively and safeguard employability of the people among the disruptions and megatrends of our times,” he said in his opening remark.

Understanding the challenges and the need for collective action, Indonesia focuses on three main pillars for its G20 Presidency 2022: global health architecture, sustainable energy transition and digital transformation. Through these pillars, Indonesia would continue to take the lead on ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines as well as promoting sustainable and inclusive economic development through the participation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and digital economy.
