Enhancing industrial relations in Indonesia through sustainable and responsible business enterprise

JAKARTA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) will organize an Industrial Relations Forum titled “Sustainable and Responsible Business Enterprises within Enterprises: Pathways to Enhancing Industrial Relations in Indonesia” on Wednesday, 16 November 2016, in Jakarta.

The Forum is a follow up to the 7th Regional Tripartite Industrial Relations (IR) Seminar, “Promoting Social Dialogue within Enterprises”, held in Chiba, Japan, last September, highlighting the current industrial relations in the ASEAN region.

The Forum will provide an opportunity to raise the awareness on possible sustainable and responsible business practices and explore alternative approaches to supporting harmonious industrial relations within enterprises. The Forum also provides a venue for knowledge- and experience sharing among participants on ways to enhance industrial relations in Indonesia through social dialogue.

Interactive sessions in the Forum include the learning session from the Labour Expert System of Japan and its practical application to support the industrial relations needs of Indonesia. Other issues covered include employee-employer cooperation for greener, safer and more productive workplace and a good practice cases from Viet Nam about generating more & better jobs through socially responsible labour and business practices.

Industrial practices discussed focus on sustainable business practices in the manufacturing sector and labour practices at the enterprise level. As an effort to provide concrete practical examples, the workforce best practices from the winners of the Sustainable Business Awards 2016 will be shared.

It is expected around 50 representatives from the Ministry of Manpower, workers’ organizations, employers’ association and other relevant stakeholders will attend and participate in the Forum.

The Forum is conducted by the ILO through its Workplaces and Industries for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Project (InSIGHT Project). Funded by the Government of Japan, the Project is aimed to strengthen policy dialogue and institutional capacities to promote sustainable and inclusive growth in industries and workplaces. It is also aimed to enhance local tripartite structures and support systems to foster sustainability and competitiveness at sector and workplace levels.
