The Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Doyle, visited the Boile-Uatabo road in Bacau Municipality, Timor-Leste, on 6 October 2015. The 5.2 kilometer road connects the city to the beach, contributing to the development of the tourism potential of the area.

The road is rehabilitated under the Roads for Development (R4D) programme, designed to lead and coordinate all rural road development and maintenance activities in Timor-Leste. Launched in March 2012, the programme is funded by the Government of Australia and the current first phase ends in December 2016.

R4D is aligned with, and contributes to, the Government of Timor-Leste’s Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030, the Fifth and Sixth Constitutional Programmes of the Government of Timor-Leste and the Ministry of Public Works’ Five-Years Action Plan.

During his visit, the Ambassador met with contractors and members of the community who are benefiting from the improved road condition. He was very pleased with the quality of the road and its impact on the livelihoods of people.
