  2. Effective collective bargaining and negotiation skills for industrial harmony

    The ILO Pakistan Office, under its flagship project, Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC), organized a four day training workshop on ‘Collective Bargaining and Negotiations Skills’ in Islamabad from 5-8 March, 2018. The objective of the workshop was to enhance the capacities of the stake holders of the world of work, promote healthy industrial relations and foster a culture of strengthened social dialogue that contributes to productivity and industrial peace. The participants constituted of the representatives of the government, employers and workers organizations.

  3. Achieving gender equality through collective bargaining

    The ILO Pakistan Office, under the Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC) project, commemorated the International Women Day, and organised an exclusive session on ‘’Women and Collective Bargaining’, under the overall theme of ‘Time is Now: Urban and Rural Activists transforming lives of women’. The ceremony was attended by the ILO tripartite constituents, Ministry of OPHRD, Representatives of the Employers and Workers, Academia, Civil Society, Journalist and a cross section of society.

  4. Third batch of Labour Inspectors’ Nationwide Training Program completed in Punjab

    The Strengthening Labour Inspection Project in Pakistan completed a three day training for the 3rd batch of Labour Inspectors of the Department of Labour Punjab on 2nd March 2018. To date, the project has trained 331 labour inspectors [318 men and 13 women] of Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK, ICT, GB and Punjab.

  5. Dialogues on effective wage setting processes in Pakistan continues

    The ILO project on Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains (LSGSC) convened a three day workshop on “Wage Policy in Pakistan” for the officials of the departments of labour and planning and development from Provincial Governments and ICT, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development from 21-23 February 2018 in Islamabad

  6. Eleventh batch of national labour inspectors’ training program completed

    The ILO Country Office in Pakistan organized a three day training for the 2nd batch of Labour Inspectors of the Department of Labour Punjab under its Dutch funded project on Strengthening Labour Inspection Systems in Pakistan (SLISP) bring the total number of Labour Inspectors trained to 302 (292 men and 10 women from Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK, ICT, GB and Punjab).

  7. Collective bargaining and negotiation skills highlighted in workshop as vital tools to ensure good industrial relations in Pakistan

    A four-day training workshop for ILO’s tripartite constituents on ‘Collective Bargaining and Negotiation Skills’ concluded on 11 January 2018 in Karachi. The participants acquired knowledge of the relevant ILO Conventions on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining and the importance of negotiation styles and techniques used for consensus based dialogue.

  1. Launch of Punjab’s home based workers survey report

    On 28th December 2017, the Punjab Bureau of Statistics (PBS) launched its 'Home Based Workers Survey Report 2016' with the technical support of the ILO and UN Women. This is the first survey of Home Based Workers (HBW) undertaken in South Asia, paving the way for the recognition of this category of workers, mainly comprised of women, as formal workers.

  2. Mainstreaming gender in statistical processes and orientation to ILO conventions C-100 & C-111

    The Punjab Bureau of Statistics with the technical support of the ILO Pakistan organized a one day training on ‘Gender Mainstreaming in Statistical Processes” bringing together more than 40 participants from the Government, Employers and Workers Organizations, academia and civil society.

  3. Tenth cohort of national labour inspectors’ training program completed

    21 December 2017

    The ILO Country Office in Pakistan organized a three day training for the 10th cohort of Labour Inspectors of the Department of Labour Punjab under its Dutch funded project on Strengthening Labour Inspection Systems in Pakistan (SLISP).

  4. Tripartite consultative meeting on findings of diagnostic study on Decent Work in Rural Economy in Pakistan

    On 20th December 2017, the preliminary findings of the “Diagnostic Study on Decent Work in Rural Economy of Pakistan” were shared with tripartite-plus stakeholders. Serious efforts to create awareness, institutional arrangements and support mechanisms for rural workers to access decent work was the underlying conclusion of this national consultation.

  5. The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to develop Youth Employment Strategy in collaboration with Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and ILO

    Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in collaboration with International Labour Organization (ILO) and Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) convened provincial consultation on Youth Employment Framework in Muzaffarabad.

  6. Training of labour inspectors of Sindh on inspection of wages

    15 December 2017

    The ILO convened a one day training workshop on “Inspection of Wages” for 27 labour inspectors of the Department of Labour (DoL) Sindh providing the inspecting staff an opportunity to discuss in detail issues related to wages.

  7. The Government of Balochistan to develop Youth Employment Strategy in collaboration with Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and ILO

    The ILO will support the Government of Balochistan and Prime Ministers’ Youth Programme (PMYP) in organizing a consultative workshop on Youth Employment Framework in Quetta. This is part of a series of consultations across the country aimed at devising consensus based strategies for youth employment and empowerment.

  8. Advancing Pakistan’s occupational safety and health legislation through social dialogue

    The ILO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development organized a two-day National Tripartite Consultation on OSH in the mining sector. The Consultation took stock of the OSH situation in the mining sector, raised awareness on the sub optimal working conditions, mapped possible solutions for improvement and identified roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in promoting a preventive safety and health culture.

  9. Consensus emerges to escalate efforts for improved OSH conditions of Pakistan’s mine workers

    The ILO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development organized a two-day National Tripartite Consultation on OSH in the mining sector.   10. Sialkot sports goods factories make OSH a top priority

    The ILO organized a series of six workshops on occupational safety and health (OSH) in different factories of Sialkot, during which 187 participants representing 41 sports goods companies/organizations from Sialkot were sensitized on OSH.

  11. Stakeholder dialogue on Socially Responsible Enterprises and Employers Federation of Pakistan’s national business agenda

    The Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) convened a stakeholders dialogue to raise awareness among stakeholders on key elements of the ILO’s Declaration on Multinational Enterprises & Social Policy. The ILO’s MNE Declaration Project, funded by the Government of Japan, supported this initiative of the EFP. Relevant stakeholders from the world of work, discoursed at length, focusing on the opportunities & challenges concerning occupational, safety & health and women engagement in the workforce.

  12. ILO, Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and Punjab government to develop Youth Employment Strategy

    The Government of Punjab in collaboration with Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and ILO held a Provincial Consultative workshop on the “Youth Employment Framework”. This is part of a series of consultations across the country aimed at devising consensus based strategies for youth employment and empowerment.

  13. Pakistan and ILO’s Fair Recruitment Initiative

    The ILO is embarking on a project funded by the European Union on ‘Fair Recruitment practices’ - “Global Action to Improve the Recruitment Framework of Labour Migration or REFRAME. In this regard, a national consultation was held in Islamabad on 11th October 2017 to identify the challenges and priorities for action and implementation modalities of this new project
