KARACHI (ILO News): International Labour Organization in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and with the financial assistance of European Union organized a tri-partite plus consultation workshop to contribute to greater understanding of international labour standards and also support evolving a national action plan to strengthen compliance and reporting of core international labour standards. The subjects of these standards are Child Labour, Forced Labour, Freedom of Association/ Collective Bargaining & Non-Discrimination and Equality in Employment and Occupation.

The workshop created awareness on ILO’s standards setting processes and supervisory systems and helped the provincial stakeholders of Sindh and Baluchistan to continue a review of the labour laws from different lenses including the International Labour Standards (ILS), Constitution of Pakistan, relevant national and provincial legislation and from comments raised by ILO’s supervisory mechanisms. The provinces also started planning the institutional and administrative reforms, apart from the legal reforms required for ameliorating implementation.

After a similar workshop in Lahore involving Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other regions, a final roundtable will be organized in Islamabad to consolidate forward looking action plans for each of the provinces and regions.
