The ILO Country Office for Viet Nam operates a wide range of programmes and projects. Details of each programme and project can be found below.

2021

  1. Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE)

    1 June 2011 - 31 December 2021

    SCORE is a practical training and workplace improvement programme to increase the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises while promoting respect for workers’ rights.

  2. Responsible Supply Chains in Asia - Viet Nam

    5 December 2017 - 31 July 2021

    The Responsible Supply Chains in Asia programme aims to promote responsible business practices into the operations of multinational companies and their supply chains. Active in six Asian countries, the programme in the Vietnam is working to enhance respect for labour rights and environmental standards among multinational enterprises with supply chains in wood processing and seafood/aquaculture industries. This project is co-funded by the European Union and the ILO under the EU’s Partnership Instrument.

  1. Improving the Representative Role of Trade Unions and Employers in the New Industrial Relation Framework (NIRF/Japan Project)

    1 October 2016 - 31 December 2020

    The Project's overall goal is to build the legal and institutional foundations for a new industrial relations framework based on 1998 ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, with a special focus on Convention 87 on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise and Convention 98 on Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining, and in full consideration of national contexts effectively established in Viet Nam.

  2. Promoting New Industrial Relations Framework in Vietnam

  1. FIRST (Fair international recruitment against slavery and trafficking) Project

    1 December 2018 - 31 December 2019

    The FIRST project is an exploratory project that will develop and test strategies and tools to reduce instances of exploitative working conditions, particularly forced labour and debt bondage, experienced by Vietnamese women and men migrant workers.

  2. Enhancing implementation of SDG Decent Work targets and indicators in Viet Nam

    1 November 2017 - 31 December 2019

    The project “Enhancing implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Decent Work targets and indicators in Viet Nam” supports the development, implementation and monitoring of labour and employment related SDG targets and indicators in Viet Nam.

  3. Applying the G20 Training Strategy (Phase 2)

  4. Support to Build Capacity for Improving National Industrial Relations Database for Evidence-based Policy-making (NIRF/Canada Project)

    1 March 2017 - 30 September 2019

    The Project's overall goal is to make better informed, evidence-based IR policy decisions through improved industrial relations data collection, dissemination and analysis for the Government of Viet Nam together with social partners.

  5. Youth 4 OSH: OSH for Young Workers and Young Employers in Global Supply Chains —Building a Culture of Prevention

    1 January 2017 - 31 July 2019

    The project seeks to reduce workplace injuries, fatalities, and occupational diseases through increased preventative safety actions by young workers and young employers in Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Viet Nam.

  6. Promoting and building social protection in Asia (3rd phase): Extending social security coverage in ASEAN

    1 March 2016 - 31 July 2019

    Building on the achievements of the past two phases of the ILO/Japan Project on Promoting and Building Social Protection in Asia (2011-2013 and 2014-2016), and the solid partnership with ASEAN Member States, a third phase of the Project is here proposed, as a component too of the ILO’s Global Flagship Programme on Building Social Protection Floors for all.

2018

  1. Promoting ILO fundamental conventions towards ratification of Conventions 87, 98, 105, and actions to eliminate discrimination and forced labour in Viet Nam (NIRF/EU Project)

    27 September 2016 - 31 December 2018

    The project aims to contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic growth of Viet Nam by enhancing the existing legislative framework through the better application and implementation of international labour standards consistent with the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

  2. Building a generation of safe and healthy workers - SafeYouth@Work

    1 December 2014 - 18 December 2018

    The global project of which Viet Nam is a pilot country seeks to make workplace safer and healthier for young workers, aged 15-24 years, and to promote a culture of prevention on occupational safety and health.

  3. More and Better Jobs Through Socially Responsible Labour Practices in Viet Nam

    1 August 2015 - 30 June 2018

    The project will help to encourage multinational enterprises to contribute positively to economic and social development through socially responsible labour practices in Viet Nam, with a special focus on the electronic sector.

  4. Formalization of the informal sector

    1 May 2016 - 30 April 2018

    The project aims to improve the protection of informal workers working in precarious conditions and vulnerable to external shocks.

2017

  1. Supporting to Viet Nam’s Public Employment Policy (from Policy to Implementation)

    1 July 2015 - 31 December 2017

    This project aims for Viet Nam to develop an effective Public Employment Policy (PEP) by the end of 2017 that provides income earning opportunities for income-poor and disadvantaged groups.

2016

  1. Strengthening the Performance of the Social Insurance System in Viet Nam through Improved Legislation and Legal Framework for Social Insurance (Phase 2)

    1 January 2015 - 31 December 2016

    The project aims to help strengthen the quality and performance of the legislation and legal framework for social insurance in Viet Nam, thus improve the performance of the country’s social insurance system and contribute to the national economic development and social security.

  2. Improving Working Conditions of Entertainment Workers as a Means to Strengthen HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care Programmes in Viet Nam

    1 March 2014 - 31 December 2016

    The project aims to support the ILO’s tripartite constituents – the Government, and employers and workers’ organizations in improving the working conditions of entertainment workers as a means to strengthen HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care services.

  3. Support to Development in Industrial Relations, Wage Fixing, and Labour Law Implementation Institutions and Capacity in Viet Nam

    27 September 2012 - 27 September 2016

    The project aims to put into practice the new Labour Code and Trade Union to ensure that, by 2016, Viet Nam’s minimum wage system is reformed and industrial relations institutions and mechanisms for collective bargaining and social dialogue have been improved and capacity of all stakeholders are strengthened to bring the regulations and practices into closer compliance with international labour standards.

  4. Sustainable and Responsible Tourism in Central Viet Nam

    1 January 2014 - 30 June 2016

    The project aims to address the tourism development issues of sustainable cultural resources and environment with the main focus on the rural and remote areas in Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.

  5. Increasing Workplace Compliance through Labour Inspection in Viet Nam

    1 January 2014 - 30 June 2016

    The project aims to help strengthen workplace compliance in Viet Nam through labour inspection, thus improve the application of the labour law. The project also complements other ILO projects in the areas of industrial relations, occupational safety and health and better work.
