In 2021, the SCORE programme launches a number of online training programmes to provide enterprises and their workforce with flexible access to knowledge and best practices in the manufacturing sector in addition to the regular training and consulting services.

The training course on implementing 5S at enterprises is the first course in this series of activities. 5S is a method of organizing and managing the workplace. 5S stands for Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain.

The course aims to introduce effective methods to create a clean and professional working environment, thereby improving labour productivity.

Course introduction

This is an introductory video of the course. 5S is one of the fundamental tools for enterprises in the SCORE Training to improve productivity and quality. In many enterprises, the implementation of 5S has contributed to the creation of a new working culture based on the participation of all employees, enhanced visual management, continuous improvement and occupational safety and health.

How to implement S1 - Sort

At this step, we will sort out what we need and don't need. Get rid of the unnecessary. Determine the right quantity for the things we need. At the workplace, employees and managers need to ask questions to determine what needs to be kept and what does not.

How to implement S2 - Set in order

After we have eliminated unnecessary things in S1, we are left with the necessary ones. We need to arrange these things in order, with appropriate numbers and labels.

How to implement S3 - Shine

This step is about keeping equipment, tools and the workplace clean. Perform daily cleaning and try to limit the source of dirtiness. The cleaning process makes it easy to check, maintain and detect machine abnormalities. With S3 we need to assign clear daily responsibilities to each worker.

How to implement S4 - Standardize

This is an important step to ensure that S1, S2 and S3 are implemented consistently across all areas of the enterprise. The approach of the SCORE Training in S4 is to create the most favourable conditions for employees to participate in the development of enterprise 5S standards.

How to implement S5 - Sustain

S5 is a step to sustain the achievements of 5S in an enterprise and constantly improve the 5S standards that have been built in S4. The 5S assessment form is an important tool to help maintain 5S at work.
