Sixth annual Safety Fun Run for garment workers

Better Work Viet Nam is to organize the sixth annual Safety Fun Run on 17 May in Binh Duong New City.

Better Work Vietnam is to organize the sixth annual Safety Fun Run on 17 May in Binh Duong New City. The event aims to strengthen the connection between workers, employers, buyers, and the wider community to build awareness and drive up safety and health standards in the garment industry.

The focus of this year’s event is “WORKER’S HEALTH”. A recent study by BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) for the HER project on women’s health shows that workers face a range of common ailments, including upper respiratory tract infections (coughs and colds), headache, fatigue, and diarrhea –all of which affect both workers’ health and productivity at work. Nutritional concerns were also highlighted, with more than 4 in every 10 workers unaware of the need for a varied diet (i.e. 4 food groups), and more than two-thirds unaware of the importance of iron and other micronutrients in preventing prevent anemia.

This year’s Fun Run will aim to kick-start new behaviours in this area through practical education and guidance on how workers can take care of their health and improve their safety at work.

In addition to the run itself, workers will have chance to participate in a range of fun and interactive activities including videos, live performances, and quiz competitions. It will also give participants an opportunity to exchange and share experiences with peers from other factories.
