Viet Nam Tripartite Preparatory Meeting for the 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour

Viet Nam will hold its national preparatory meeting for the 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour with tripartite partners and civil society. The national preparatory meeting for Viet Nam is organized by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and will be held on 15 August 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam with the support of the ILO ASEAN TRIANGLE Project and and Task Force on ASEAN Migrant Workers (TFAMW).

The 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour will carry the theme: “Enhancing policy and protection of migrant workers through data sharing, and adequate access to the legal and judicial system during employment, including effective complaints mechanisms.” The meeting will be hosted by the Government of Brunei from 26 to 27 November 2013.

The annual ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) is an open platform for review, discussion and exchange of good practices and ideas between governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and civil society stake-holders on key issues facing women and men migrant workers in South-East Asia, and develop recommendations to advance the implementation of the principles of the ASEAN Declaration on Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers. The Forum provides opportunity to share stakeholder activities to implement the various Recommendations from AFML meetings as well as the experience of developing the draft ASEAN Instrument on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers.

Each year the AFML is hosted by the current chair of the ASEAN with secretariat support from the ASEAN Secretariat, and inputs from ILO, IOM, UN Women and the Taskforce for ASEAN Migrant Workers. Some countries choose to hold national preparatory meetings with tripartite partners and civil society.

The national preparatory meeting for Viet Nam will be held on 15 August 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City and supported by the ILO ASEAN TRIANGLE Project, funded by the Canadian Government. The meeting participants will take stock on progress to date on the implementation of previous forums’ recommendations at the national level, and discuss the theme of the 6th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour.
