COVID-19 and rising wage inequality: Trends and challenges in Thailand and Viet Nam

This brief presents quantitative trends in wage inequality in Thailand and Viet Nam during the COVID-19 crisis in 2020. Based on various measures, it highlights the rise of inequality as wages have been increasingly concentrated among the highest wage earners and the disproportionate impact of lower wages on informal workers, youth and workers with lower educational qualifications. It presents a number of policy measures including enhanced wage support and active labour market policies to counter these dynamics.

Tackling the COVID-19 youth employment crisis in Asia and the Pacific

Young people’s employment prospects in Asia and the Pacific are severely challenged as a result of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Youth (15–24 years) will be hit harder than adults (25 and older) in the immediate crisis and also risk bearing higher longer-term economic and social costs, says a joint ILO-ADB report.

Features of Centre for Skills Excellence

ILO’s EU funded Skills 21 project is transforming two teachers training centre into ‘Centre for Skills Excellence(CSE)’. In the process of establishing a centre of excellence, the institutes can be elevated from "good" to "great" by providing expert trainers, researchers, facilities, and equipment. These centres will become a model of best practice in TVET and skills development.
