    We interviewed Pola Schneemelcher, Project Manager in the area of labor market and fiscal policy at the think tank Dezernat Zukunft – Institute for Macrofinance. She shared her insights on how youth labour markets in the European Union were impacted by the pandemic, what measures she has seen and whether governments can afford these measures or not. The Dezernat Zukunft is a non-partisan think tank aiming at rethinking and explaining monetary, financial, and economic policy in a comprehensible way.

    Making Dual VET work: Lessons learnt from Montenegro

    What is the most effective way to learn a new skill? Most people will say “through practice”. It is well-known that increasing the share of company-based learning in Vocational Education and Training (VET) yields much learning effects than school-based training only. A recent evaluation of Dual VET in Montenegro by ILO and the European Training Foundation (ETF) showed promising results. Almost 60% of dual TVET students found a work after graduation while the placement rate under the traditional school based system is around an estimated 30%.

    The “Centenary Declaration for the Future of Work” adopted by the International Labour Conference in June, calls for a “human-centered approach” to the future of work. That is more than relevant for today’s discussion entitled “A world at risk: developing the skill sets to endure, adapt, and thrive”, said today Heinz Koller, Assistant Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia. He addressed the panel discussion at the international WorldSkills Conference 2019.
