    This regional companion report for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is intended to complement the ILO’s World Social Protection Report 2021–22. Social Protection at the Crossroads – in Pursuit of a Better Future. The regional companion report first gives a global perspective that is taken from the main report and outlines recent developments in social protection systems worldwide. It then highlights key developments, challenges and priorities for social protection in the MENA region.

  5. Diagnosis on informality in targeted intervention areas of the PROSPECTS programme in Uganda

    In 2020, the ILO commissioned a study on the informal economy in the forced displacement context in Uganda. The aim of the study was to assess drivers of informality in refugee settlements and host communities in targeted regions of the PROSPECTS programme and identify opportunities to improve working conditions and reduce informality among these target groups.

    Paraguay has become the 60th country to ratify the flagship ILO social security Convention, No.102, reaching a target set in 2012 by the ILO’s Governing Body.

    4.1 billion individuals worldwide have no access to social protection. This includes millions of migrant workers, refugees, and their families. They face legal and practical challenges to access social protection. Many options exist to secure and maintain social security rights across borders and address the protection gaps, inequalities and discrimination evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
