Asian Programme on the Governance of Labour Migration

This programme, which is supported by the European Union, aims to promote dialogue and cooperation related to improved management of labour migration, with a particular emphasis on gender and rights. Its goal is to combat the exploitation and abuse of migrant workers in the Asian region.

Capacity building for migration management in China

The ‘Capacity Building for Migration Management in China’ Project is co-implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in close partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China. This project is principally financed by the European Commission, with co-funding from the Italian Ministry of Interior and the United Kingdom Border Agency. The project seeks to promote cooperation between China and the EU in field of migration through the exchange of expertise, information and personnel. The components of the project include raising awareness of the risks associated with irregular migration.

Employment, vocational training opportunities and migration policy measures to prevent and reduce trafficking in women

The capacity building component of the project related to the strengthening of migration policy management and the development of a system of regulation of the activities of private job placement agencies is complemented with small community-based pilot schemes providing to women victims of trafficking or potential victims with training or employment opportunities.

Capacity building for return, reintegration and temporary migration of afghan workers and their protection

The ILO has been working with the UNHCR since 2004 in its efforts to seek a durable and comprehensive solution to the problem of Afghan displacement. This technical cooperation project was a follow up to the research phase on the Afghan displaced population in Iran and Pakistan and returnees in Afghanistan.

Technical assistance to better regulate migratory flows from Senegal, Mauritania and Mali to Spain

The ILO has recently started the implementation of a project covering Senegal, Mauritania and Mali also designed to support efforts to maximise social and economic benefits of migration for the region of the Sahel, for Spain, and for migrant workers, in line with the principles of equality and non discrimination.

Promoting equality in diversity: Integration in Europe

With the financial support of the EU, ILO and partners implemented a project aiming to support broad community engagement throughout European Union member countries in facilitating integration of and combating discrimination against immigrants by disseminating effective practice, identifying indicators of integration, developing evaluation tools, and convening social partner networking.

Project on labour migration as an instrument of development and integration in East Africa, West Africa and North Africa
1 August 2004 - 30 June 2006
The project is a reflection of a number of requests to the ILO for cooperation on labour migration management, reiterated by West African stakeholders at the International Migration Policy Seminar for West Africa in Dakar (December 2001) and by representatives of East African States at the International Migration Policy Seminar for East Africa and the Horn of Africa in Nairobi (May 2002).
