Tos Q. Añonuevo
Tos Añonuevo is a migrant worker from the Philippines. He is now based in Geneva, Switzerland and working as the Education Secretary of the Building and Wood Workers International or BWI. Before working for BWI in July 2005, he is the Country Program Coordinator of the German political foundation Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) – a position he occupied for almost 15 years. Mr. Añonuevo joined the trade union movement in 1986 after studying political science. He started as a union organizer of the National Federation of Labor (NFL) and later on became the Education Officer of the Confederation of Independent Unions in the Public Sector (CIU).

He has written several trade union books and manuals including a workers dictionary. He finished his Masters in Industrial Relations in Keele University, United Kingdom in 2004 and his thesis on public sector collective bargaining was published the following year.

Peter W. Klein
Peter W. Klein is a journalist, writer and documentary filmmaker. He joined CBS News 60 Minutes as a producer in 1999 and worked closely on investigations with Mike Wallace and Bob Simon. He produces video projects for The New York Times and previously wrote columns for The Globe and Mail. He is the founder of the Global Reporting Centre, a non-profit organization dedicated to reporting on neglected global issues and innovating the practice of global journalism.

From 2009 to 2010 Klein was the host of the Canadian current affairs interview program The Standard. From 2010 to 2015 he was the Director of the University of British Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism, where he continues to serve as a professor and runs the Global Reporting Program. His work has earned recognition from leading professional organizations, including the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (three Emmy Awards), Society of Professional Journalists (two Sigma Delta Chis), Radio Television Digital News Association (numerous Edward R. Murrows), International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (Webby Honor) and the Online Journalism Organization (ONA).
 

Michelle Leighton
Michelle Leighton is Chief of the Labour Migration Branch for the International Labour Organization where she directs the Office’s work on labour migration and mobility, and supports policies and programs related to migrants and refugees. She has expertise in the fields of international law, labour migration, human rights, and economic development, and received her LL.M degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, London, England in 1987.

She serves as an expert appointed to the UNFCCC WIM Task Force on displacement related to climate change, and formerly a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Migration. Ms. Leighton has led global and field research teams, including on linkages between human migration and development, environmental and climate change. She has taught on law faculties in Asia, Europe and the United States and authored numerous publications. Following her service as a Fulbright Scholar in Central Asia, she co-founded the American University of Central Asia’s Tian Shan Policy Center at the American University in Bishkek. She has been an adviser and consultant to international institutions, government, and non-profit organizations, leading technical cooperation projects in the Americas, Africa, Europe and Central Asia. She served as the Munich Re Foundation Chair on Social Vulnerability for the UNU-Environment and Human Security institute, Bonn, Germany, as an expert on the German Marshall Fund’s Trans-Atlantic Study Team on Climate and Migration, and Director of the Center for Law and Global Justice Human Rights Program at the University of San Francisco Law School. Early in her career, she co-founded the NGO Natural Heritage Institute in San Francisco, leading programs on environment, migration, corporate social responsibility, and human rights.
 

Theresa Owusu Ako
Theresa Owusu Ako is Head of News, Radio Division of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, which is the State Broadcaster. A Public Service Broadcaster in Ghana and a Senior Management staff of the Corporation. She is a Health Advocate with a bias towards women, children and adolescent health. She was a member of Media Advocates,a group of Journalists whose reports and stories on the Navrongo Health Research Center's bednet trials yielded positive results by attracting government attention into making the usage of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets a policy on malaria intervention in Ghana. Also, she was among those who advocated the administration of Vitamin A Supplementation to children and recently, the Malaria Vaccine for children as certified by the WHO. She facilitates health programs and is the Media Representative on the Malaria and Polio Eradication Committees at the Ghana Health Service. Her long years of Journalism practice has exposed her to various areas of development journalism including issues on human trafficking.She has represented the State Broadcaster on many international programs and a rich experience on the coverage of international development issues.

She also sits as Board Member of the Human Trafficking Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Ramon Guillermo R. Tuazon
Ramon Guillermo R. Tuazon is UNESCO senior media development specialist in Myanmar. He is the secretary general of the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC). Mr. Tuazon is the chairman of the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Committee for Communication (TCC) and a member of the CHED Technical Working Group for Graduate Programs. He is immediate past president of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC).

As UNESCO Consultant in Paris in 2005, he coordinated the preparation of the UNESCO Model Curricula for Journalism Education which was published in 2007. He is co-author of Media and Information Literacy: Curriculum for Teachers (UNESCO, 2011) and its 2nd edition, MIL Curriculum for Educators and Learners (2021). He has participated in several international and national projects as consultant in such areas as communication and journalism, education and literacy, children’s rights, agriculture and rural development, and judicial reform.

Mr. Tuazon was the project director of the EU-funded Safeguarding Press Freedom in the Philippines Project which produced in 2019 the Philippine Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists, the first of its kind in the world. He teaches at the AIJC’s Graduate School and at the Graduate School of the Holy Angel University in Pampanga. He completed his Master in Communication Management from the AIJC and Bachelor of Science in Commerce from UST where he also took graduate work in advertising.
