Migrant workers, particularly women migrant workers, are disproportionately at risk of becoming infected by HIV. This is evident through the increased number of HIV cases recorded among migrant workers. The Association of Hospital and Medical Center for Indonesian Manpower, HIPTEK, reported 174 HIV cases among 162.000 prospective migrant workers tested at 10 big health test centres in 2010. The NGO Caring of Migrant Workers reported handling 50 HIV cases among deported migrant workers in 2010.

Regional Workshop for Employers’ Organisations from the Southern Caucasus and Destination Countries on Strategies against Human Trafficking and Forced Labour

The EU funded regional project “Strengthening of comprehensive anti-trafficking response in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia” takes place in the Caucasus region covering Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and seeks to contribute to the progressive reduction of trafficking in human beings in these three countries. The Conference is a regional component of the Project and will contribute to the development of a coherent anti-trafficking strategy for the Employers’ Organizations to take action against forced labour and trafficking in human beings

Action to combat trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation: Identification and protection of victims

The conference will provide an overview of the results of the “FREED” Project, present the studies on trafficking for labour exploitation and forced labour in Italy and Poland, present the national versions of the handbook for labour inspectors and discuss their application on actual cases, discuss transnational cooperation mechanisms between labour inspectors and law enforcement agencies in source and destination countries, and share ideas about future steps towards an effective response to forced labour and labour exploitation.

Human trafficking and forced labour - Training of Trainers
15 - 16 October 2009
The training is part of a broader ILO initiative to build the capacity of Tajik officials to prevent and prosecute human trafficking in the context of labour migration from Tajikistan. The overall objective of these capacity building measures is to improve investigation and prosecution of alleged trafficking cases as well as to ensure identification, protection and rehabilitation of the victims of trafficking and forced labor, in accordance with internationally accepted principles.
