    Capacity Building Workshop on Strengthening the Role of ASEAN Labour Attachés in Singapore, 26 April 2016, Singapore

    The International Labour Organization ASEAN TRIANGLE Project and the Philippines Embassy in Singapore are launching a series of consultations with labour attachés and embassy officials from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Viet Nam to strengthen dialogue between labour attachés and consular officials now posted in Singapore. The 1st consultation workshop is schedule to take place in Singapore on 26th April 2016. It aims at familiarizing labour attachés and consular officials on the functions and services provided by the various ASEAN embassies in Singapore on the protection of their migrant workers and to update the participants on recent developments on labour migration in the region. In addition, it aims at enhancing the capacity of ASEAN Labour Attachés in Singapore in providing service and protection for their migrant workers.

    Fourth Capacity Building Workshop on Strengthening the Role of Labour Attachés in Thailand

    The appointment of labour attachés or consular officials to major countries of destination is an important measure for migrant sending countries to ensure the protection of their migrant workforce. Labour attachés perform a vital role in the protection of migrant workers and in the development of effective labour migration policies. This fourth workshop is being held with the specific objective to update labour attachés and consular officials on developments in migration in ASEAN and on recent changes to Thailand’s labour migration policies and practices.

    ASEAN Trade Union Council (ATUC) consultation on ASEAN integration and Labour Migration

    The ATUC Consultation on ASEAN integration and labour migration was attended by 21 representatives of 16 ATUC affiliates in eight ASEAN Member States, including participants from the International Trade Union Confederation Asia Pacific (ITUC AP), the International Labor Organization – Bureau of Workers Activities (ACTRAV), and the ILO ASEAN Triangle Project. The meeting noted the progress of actions on various points in the ATUC inter-union agreement and proposed joint actions for advocacy and implementation of programs for the promotion and protection of migrant workers in the ASEAN.

    ATUC Youth Rally 2015

    The ASEAN Trade Union Council hosted the first ATUC Youth Rally and Dissemination Forum on Protecting Migrant Workers through Trade Union Agreements in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 3-5 September 2015, with the participation of 200 young workers/delegates and principal officers from 16 affiliate national labour centers, from eight (8) ASEAN member states, including observers and resource persons from the International Labour Organization (ILO) ACTRAV, ILO ASEAN Triangle Project (ATP), the International Trade Union Confederation Asia Pacific, and the ASEAN Secretariat.

    Business response to preventing forced labour of migrant workers, Employers' Regional Workshop – ASEAN Triangle Project

    Business and its representatives are key stakeholders in the migration process and Forced labour has been identified by the ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE) as a key priority as the region moves to economic integration in 2015. A 1.5 days regional technical meeting organized by ACT/EMP in partnership with Better Work Vietnam, and the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) under the framework of the ASEAN TRIANGLE project will bring together all ten members of ACE, as well as regional experts and practitioners with a focus on forced labour and human trafficking issues. The meeting will provide technical presentations on key aspects of forced labour along with practical information and experiences from firms on tackling forced labour in company operations. ”

    Myanmar initiatives on protecting migrant workers and implementing the ATUC Framework for Decent Work in Labour Migration

    The ASEAN TRIANGLE Project supported this meeting of the ASEAN Trade Union Council (ATUC) and the ITUC – Asia Pacific to discuss initiatives in Myanmar on the protection of migrant workers. The decisions taken at this and by the leaders of ATUC resulted in specific actions to implement the ATUC inter-union agreement for decent work in labour migration and the recommendations of the 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour.

    All ATUC Affiliates Dissemination Meeting on the ASEAN Triangle Project, Opportunities and Challenges in ASEAN 2015 and Capacity Building for Trade Union Focal Points on Migrant Labour

    The ASEAN TRIANGLE Project supported this first activity of the ASEAN Trade Union Council and the International Trade Union Confederation-Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) to strengthen the capacity of ATUC affiliates to institutionalize trade union initiatives and services for migrant workers, in the light of the ASEAN Integration Initiative 2015. The activities oriented ATUC affiliates on the ILO ASEAN TRIANGLE Project, the set of ATUC activities under the Project, and the opportunities and challenges in ASEAN 2015 and their implications on migrant workers and the work of trade unions.

    Regional Workshop for Employers’ Organisations from the Southern Caucasus and Destination Countries on Strategies against Human Trafficking and Forced Labour

    The EU funded regional project “Strengthening of comprehensive anti-trafficking response in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia” takes place in the Caucasus region covering Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and seeks to contribute to the progressive reduction of trafficking in human beings in these three countries. The Conference is a regional component of the Project and will contribute to the development of a coherent anti-trafficking strategy for the Employers’ Organizations to take action against forced labour and trafficking in human beings
