Jesse Mertens' Profile

Mr. Jesse Mertens is the Technical Officer (Program and Advocacy) for the Global action to improve the recruitment framework of labour migration (REFRAME project). In this role, he provides technical support to the implementation of the project and the broader Fair Recruitment Initiative in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Prior to joining the ILO Country office for Sri Lanka and the Maldives in 2018, Mr. Mertens was a Research Officer at the ILO’s Labour Migration Branch in Geneva since March 2012, working on measuring the impacts of labour migration, with a focus on bilateral labour agreements and labour migration data and statistics.

Mr. Mertens graduated from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, after completing his MSc in Migration, Ethnic Relations, and Multiculturalism. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences from the University of Maastricht.

Working languages: English, Dutch, Spanish, and French (working knowledge), passive knowledge of German and Portuguese.
