ILO is preparing an issue brief exploring the role of a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies and welcomes written submissions as contribution towards the body of knowledge on the relationships between climate change and HIV within the context of the world of work

If you are operating at the intersection of climate change, labour and HIV, you could make a significant contribution towards the body of knowledge on the relationships between climate change and HIV within the context of the world of work.

ILO is preparing an issue brief that will explore the role of a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies in ensuring that persons living with HIV are not disproportionately impacted in the world of work by both climate change impacts, and actions to combat climate change. The paper will reflect on the potential opportunities through decent work for persons living with HIV to contribute towards enhancing climate action and building a low-carbon economy.

Some of the questions the issue brief will explore include:
  • How does that impact of climate change affect the health systems in general and the AIDS response in particular?
  • Which sectors will climate change impact in ways that may increase the vulnerability of workers living with HIV?
  • In what ways are climate change impacts manifesting for women, who bear the largest brunt of the HIV epidemic?
  • Which HIV workplace policies and programmes have worked most effectively and how has climate change necessitated revisiting or adjusting such programmes?

ILO welcomes your written submissions, which should briefly describe your experience between 200 and 500 words, capturing the objective(s), approach, results and lessons. A follow-up call between ILO and the submitter may be necessary to obtain further information.

The submission should be made in the body of an email to afsar@ilo.org by 6 November 2019. Supporting documentation may be attached to the email. More information on the work of ILO on HIV and AIDS can be seen at: https://www.ilo.org/global/topics/hiv-aids/lang--en/index.htm
