  1. User’s manual to the ILO’s Guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all

    Workers’ organizations are not passive bystanders, but agents of change able to develop new pathways to sustainability and to ensure that a transition not only delivers on climate policy objectives but incorporates the broader principles of sustainable development and decent work. This user’s manual was prepared with the objective of encouraging and assisting workers’ organizations to engage in policy discussions at all levels in shaping just transition, including in the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the Paris Agreement.

As such, the journal reveals key findings on various topics that are of special interest to trade unions and provide guidance on policies in building forward better.

  3. The Future of Work: Trade Unions in Transformation

    It has become harder for trade unions in both developed and emerging countries to protect the rights of workers and working conditions, as shown not only in the reduction of unionization, but also the fall in the labour share of income in most countries.This issue of the Journal compiles the thoughts of leading academics on the topics that are shaping discussions on the future of work. The Journal aims to serve as a stepping stone for the labour movement in its own deliberations on how workers’organizations can react to the fundamental changes that are affecting the world of work, and that it will provide further reflections on the transformation of trade unions these changes might entail.

  4. Just Transition Towards Environmentally Sustainable Economies and Societies for All

    The transition to a carbon-neutral economy will affect every aspect of how we produce goods, provide services, move around and consume. The Paris Agreement (UNFCCC 2015), was a historical milestone, where nations committed themselves to transforming their development trajectories in order to limit global warming by 2100 to 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. This policy brief will address the main challenges in fulfilling these goals, how just transition can work in practice and what trade unions and workers’ organizations can do.

  5. Report: Workshop on Climate Change, Its Impacts on Employment and Labour Markets, March 2010

    This workshop was organised by the Global Union Research Network (GURN) and coordinated by the ILO’s Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). The aim was to discuss academic research on the employment aspects of climate change and identify research gaps.
