High-Level Policy Dialogue and Knowledge Fair

The Future of Work in the Transition to Inclusive Green Economies

This event will inaugurate the second global PAGE Academy on the Green Economy, to be held in Turin, from 3 to 14 October 2016.

The Policy Dialogue will contribute to greater understanding of the trends, policies and strategies for promoting decent work in greener economies in the strategic context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The discussion will include new research results developed under the ILO’s Green Centenary Initiative and will contribute to the ILO’s Future of Work Initiative.

The event will bring together high-level government officials, representatives from private sector, civil society and workers’ organisations, as well as senior management officials from ILO and other PAGE Agencies (UNEP, UNIDO, UNDP and UNITAR) together with national partners and PAGE donors.

The High-Level Policy Dialogue will contribute to the identification of policy instruments and practical tools that help countries at all levels of development manage the transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient economies, in line with their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the SDGs. The goal is to converge on an ambitious policy agenda for green economy promotion that ensures a just transition for enterprises, workers and communities.

Objectives

More specifically, it aims to address the following questions:

i) What are the employment and productivity effects of environmental degradation and climate change?

ii) How is employment being affected by green structural transformation driven by massive shifts in policies and public and private investments?

iii) How will the future of work change with new business models in the circular economy?

iv) What implications will innovation, green technology and changing consumption patterns have on the world of work?
