Regional Forum on Green Economy for Latin America

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) will host its first Regional Green Economy Knowledge Sharing and Learning Forum for Latin America - a unique training and learning experience for policymakers, technical staff, practitioners and other public and private-sector as well as civil society representatives.
Supported by ILO’s International Training Centre (ITCILO), this capacity building activity aims to actively promote environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive economies by strengthening knowledge and skills at national level and enabling experience exchange and networking at regional level.

Following PAGE’s global Academy on the Green Economy, held in October 2014, the Academy participants will get involved in the preparation and delivery of this event. This involvement will build on their previous learning experience and allow for knowledge sharing that enriches cross-country stimulation and contributes to a growing community of trainers.

The regional forum will be based on tailor-made training material and include interactive training sessions for extensive discussions, peer-to-peer assistance and showcasing of successful experiences. Led by the ILO, it will bring together the technical knowledge and expertise of each of the PAGE partners, as well as other high-level experts.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) is a 7-year programme launched in response to the appeal made at Rio+20 for the UN system to support countries interested in pursuing the transition to a green economy within the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication. It uses the joint expertise of UN agencies – UNEP, ILO, UNIDO, UNITAR, UNDP and others – to assist countries in their efforts to transition to environmentally viable and socially inclusive economies.
PAGE seeks to create enabling conditions in participating countries by: identifying critical bottlenecks, assessing investment options and formulating policies to encourage the creation of a new generation of assets such as clean technologies, resource-efficient infrastructure, well-functioning ecosystems, green skilled labour, job-rich growth, and good governance.
Objective
As a contribution to PAGE Outcome 3 (capacity building), this regional forum will support the understanding and knowledge sharing of policy instruments and sectoral strategies for the promotion of inclusive green economies in Latin America.

More specifically, it is expected that participants in the regional forum will:
  • improve their understanding and knowledge about strategy and policy development for environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive economies;
  • learn about suitable approaches, tested tools, and best practices from concrete experiences;
  • create a regional community of practice on green economy to maintain the momentum of dialogue and mutual learning.
Target group
The regional forum is conceived to host a maximum of 80 people and will be held in Spanish only.

Target audience include:
  • Policy makers, technical staff and stakeholders from civil society organizations, trade unions, employers’ organizations, cooperatives, knowledge and research institutions, in current and prospective PAGE partner countries;
  • Delegates from other countries which are adopting green economy strategies;
  • Staff and practitioners from collaborating/interested partner agencies and institutions.
