Biography of Catelene Passchier

Catelene Passchier is vice president of the Netherlands Trade Union Confederation (FNV) and since September 2010 member of its Executive Board.

In that capacity she is responsible for international and European policy, ILO matters (including as a member of its Governing Body), international trade policy, labour law and industrial relations, worker participation and company law, migration and free movement of workers, and equality/diversity.

She studied law at Utrecht University and was a barrister in Amsterdam from 1981-1988. She was legal adviser for the FNV from 1988-2003 and was then elected Confederal Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in Brussels from 2003-2010.

Throughout her working life, gender equality, work-life balance, precarious work and the informal economy have been her special areas of attention.
