India Wage Report: Wage policies for decent work and inclusive growth

This report provides an overview of recent trends in wages, including wage gaps between different categories of workers, gender wage gaps, wages by sector and occupation, and trends in wage inequality. It analyses the existing market labour institutions and framework; particularly focussing on minimum wages and collective bargaining, and also suggests some policy-oriented recommendations.

This third annual report on progress and perspectives of the ILO in Latin America and the Caribbean, prepared by the ILO Regional Office, is a continuation of the ones published in June 2012 and June 2013. Taken together, the three documents show steady, if uneven, progress in labour market policies, programmes and institutions, and that the ILO has been adjusting their strategies to focus on the key challenges faced by the region.

The Report, describing progress made in the world of work in the region over the last year and, at the same time, once again presenting strategic guidelines for discussion. The document also describes a chequered period: sustained progress has been made in labour policies and indicators, which is good news for the region. The international context presents serious threats however, and internal inequality persists, so it would be unwise to lower the guard.

This paper provides a comparative synthesis analysis of a series of national studies on non-standard work, collective bargaining and social dialogue in selected countries (Argentina,Colombia, India, Indonesia, Hungary, Japan and South Africa), which the Industrial and Employment Relations Department (DIALOGUE) of the ILO has conducted as a pilot project under the ILO’s Global Product on “Supporting collective bargaining and sound industrial relations”. The national studies aimed at identifying current and emerging non-standard forms of work arrangements within which workers are in need of protection; examining good practices in which people in non-standard forms of work are organized; analysing the role that collective bargaining and other forms of social dialogue play in improving the terms and conditions as well as the status of non-standard workers; and identifying good practices in this regard.
