    DFID pledges a new package of support totalling £13 million for the ILO-run Work in Freedom programme to prevent trafficking and forced labour among women migrant workers from South Asia.

  1. Work in Freedom Programme Update

    The Work in Freedom Update and UK Stakeholder Meeting is an annual event intended to brief UK stakeholders engaged in the fight against modern slavery on progress with the Work in Freedom Programme. It is also an opportunity for others to share latest developments or emerging evidence in the field. Work in Freedom is a five year, UK-funded initiative to combat trafficking of women in South Asia and the Middle East. The programme is delivered by the International Labour Organisation, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and other global and local partners.

    The Trades Union Congress (UK), Anti-Slavery International and ILO organized a joint workshop to feature a showcase of proven practices to prevent trafficking for labour exploitation by the ILO’s Mekong Sub-regional Project to Combat Trafficking in Children and Women and to discuss challenges in response to labour trafficking in the UK.

  1. UK Action Plan on Tackling Human Trafficking

    This UK action plan pulls together the work currently underway to tackle trafficking across government, and creates a platform for future work to combat this ongoing problem. It aims to balance protecting and assisting victims with enforcement work that cracks down on the organised crime groups responsible for much of the trafficking. It gives specific attention to forced labour, acknowledging the needs of increasing enforcement and intelligence activity to deal with trafficking for forced labour.
